The Strategist

Program type: documentary
Running time: 90'
Original title: Strateg

“The Strategist” is a story of an immigrant, who overcame obstacles and prejudices to rise to one of the most prominent positions in the government of the world’s greatest superpower.

“The Strategist” – a new documentary by Katarzyna Kolenda-Zaleska is a story about politics, difficult choices, as well as a lesson on how to shape events around the world in a way that is morally responsible.

The film describes the 1978 Camp David peace negotiations between Israel and Egypt, the Cold War, the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, the dramatic attempt to rescue American hostages in Teheran, the birth of the Solidarity movement, the election of Pope John Paul II.  It is also a story about extraordinary family bonds, love and difficulties of managing professional career and family life.

The film is based on a series of interviews with Zbigniew Brzezinski, his wife and children, friends and colleagues, as well as many distinguished figures of world politics. The Nobel Peace Prize winners, the 39th President of the United States, the President of Poland and former Polish presidents, former U.S. secretaries of state and national security advisors are among those who portray former National Security Advisor to President Jimmy Carter - Zbigniew Brzezinski.

Henry Kissinger - Secretary of State in the Nixon and Ford administrations:

He belongs to the people that I personally trust to do the right thing. So when I find that we disagree, it makes me think.

Madeleine Albright - Secretary of State In the Clinton administration:

So much of what I know about how the Soviet empire was put together, how it all dissolved, are things I know from Zbigniew Brzezinski.

Jimmy Carter - 39th President of the United States:

He was not a master of diplomacy, but he was a master of negotiation and bringing complicated issues into a comprehensible, understandable presentation.

Mikhail Gorbachev – former President of the Soviet Union:

He is distinguished analyst. At the time when the relations between the United States and the Soviet Union were difficult, he wrote and said things that deserved close attention.
