But are they really safe and free? The civil war in Peru lasted for twenty years. The Shining Path terrorist organization tried to achieve a communist revolution through an armed conflict with the Peruvian government. The Ashaninkas tribe, whose territories lay within the area of military operations, decided to oppose the internal fighting.
